Hey, everyone! I know I haven't posted an update in a while, but that's because there hasn't been anything big to report on. But to show that I'm still here and still working, I thought I'd share the process for the next three books.
What takes most folks I talk to by surprise is that the next three books are already done. "Done" is a relative term, as in the 1st drafts for all of them are done, they're not "ready to publish" done. This is because, in 2015, I started to upload single short-stories to Deviantart (southpaw-comics.deviantart.com), usually weekly. From 2015 to 2017, I uploaded 71 stories for Special Defense Unit and 10 stories for other series'. That's 81 stories over the course of a couple years. Over those years I completed 3 "seasons" AKA story-arcs for SDU.
What I do is take the stories I already wrote from a select story arc and place them all in a Google Drive Document as well as another copy on Word. Then, I share the book with Jared and we keep them as their own short stories (as you can see inside Volume I) but we add chapters to make them easier to read and more structured. Then I just edit, add, take out whatever I need, proofread it, put it through multiple grammar generators, then hand it to Jared to have a fresh set of eyes look it over and make sure it's good. That's basically how the books are made for now. Once we hit Volume IV, though, then I'll be writing new stories from scratch once again so it might take a bit longer to come out than the others. But yeah, I thought you'd like to know about how SDU is made and that the next 3 books... already done! Just need to comb them over first!
